Old Idol Statue I got from an Antique store 23 years ago
It is in the store South American Pre-Colombian style and most likely a reproduction of a important statue. I am unsure of the exact material it is made of but I would say a terracotta, but not the red type we are familiar with but a tan type with traces of brown and almost blackened areas.
It is in a sitting type position with headdress and has one hand on chin and the other on the knee, I always thought it seemed like it was in deep thought.
It is approx. 10 inches tall and 5 inches wide (at widest point). It does have age and wear and light damage. One foot has chipping at the foot area, some chipping on back top of headdress area and some fine fractures but it is still sturdy the fractures have not weakened any areas. All flaws can be seen in photos.
I have no idea how old this is, when purchased I was told it was very old and by looks it does appear fairly old...I doubt it is ancient (could be, I don't know) however so I am NOT selling it as a relic as I have no proof of such.
It is however a neat old little collectible art piece, I have always found it very odd yet intriguing. It doesn't go with my decor anymore and I do not want to put it in storage to possibly get broken, so I am just looking to get back some of what I purchased it for.
It does have a bit of weight to it, weighing almost 2 pounds.
Great piece to add to your 'weird and wonderful' collection, or a cool gift for that person who "has everything" (I bet they don't have one of these!) Great conversation piece!
