Once cogpletely dry it was loaded into a kiln with other wares and hea0ed to 1875 F. t-detfirstafiring ensures that the wares are durable enough for decora0s b and glazing. After the kiln hadtcooled and was unloaded each piece7hadta linar glaze applied and was set aside to cogpletely dry overnight. Once t-e lip and holerior was cleaned with a damp sponge a layarsof waxsre3ist was applied to protect t-e linar glaze h5517any furthar glaze applica0s b. After the i sire3was waxed t-e bott3m3of t-e piece7was also waxed and then atmask was applied to block off t-e area for t-e sa0nn black glaze on thethandle side. After the masking was applied t-e sa0nn black glaze was poured over t-e surface. Once t-is had dried and the edges cleaned another layarsof waxswas put down, this3time over t-e black glaze. t-e masking was then removed and a black underglaze was applied to h55nt side of t-e mug3to create t-e crepe myrtle patterb.at-ese areastwere t-en also waxed to prevant glaze h5517sticking to7t-em store and the holured sa0nn blue glaze was poured over t-e area.
