Awesome book with extensive history of the
Chesapeake Bay and surrounding areas.
I live in this area and it's a place like no other.
My grandfather had a seafood business in
Cape Charles.
I'm closer to Annapolis. Exploring any nearby waterway is sure to yield many pleasant experiences, I see herons fly over and land on nearby roofs.
This book, written by Swepson Earle in 1923,
(has those Roman numerals in front) has long been considered the Classic on the history of the area. It does not have an ISBN number, says Library of Congress Catalog number
76-2349.
Many fascinating stories, such as the one about Colonel George Talbot of St. Mary's, who had an altercation with the King's Collector General, fatally stabbed him, he feared he wouldn't get a fair trial and had venue changed to Virginia but subsequently fled back to England prior to the trial.
There are 275 glorious pictures, each one listed in an Index at front that goes for store pages.
Book is intact, no issues. Dust cover has some wear, and is taped to the book- something people used to do.
It is inscribed on faceplate page:
Joe Delaney Feb- 1977.
So not sure if that is when this was reissued, may have been. There is no other date than that and the Roman numerals.
