Meticulously handwoven Ticog bags were created by expert Filipino weavers, usually in small villages, in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. The century old tradition of weaving has been passed down from generation to generation. The “Paraglaras” or the weavers, usually women, were taught at an early age to develop this weaving skill.
Ticog/Tikog is an indigenous material that is soft but durable, and becomes smoother from constant use. This special reed grasses that are found in swampy areas which were dyed with various colors and woven into designs. The design patterns and motifs are derived from cultural or nature references.
