Scottsdale Memories
Written by Paul R Messinger
Preface by Marshall Trimble, Official Arizona State Historian
Large Paperback
112 pages
O'Neil Printing
First Edition ©2010

50 personal, heartfelt stories told by one of Scottsdale's most prominent historians and successful entrepreneurs, former Arizona State Legislator and Scottsdale City Councilman.

Each story is accompanied by one or more black store and white photos of people and places in Arizona from the 1920s to 2010 when the book was published. A historic treasure trove of more than 60 photos and 2 sketches adorn the pages.

From the back cover:
Reading one of Paul's stories conjures up images of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Stories about growing up in a small town never fail to evoke fond memories of a simpler time when we were young and there were no limits to our dreams.

Small towns are places where people can acquire a sense of security and familiarity. It's where people become better acquainted because there is more front porch sociability and sidewalk congeniality. It's a place where families spend more time socializing together, because there's not much else to do. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not too long ago, this description of a small town would have to aptly describe Scottsdale.

Scottsdale has changed from a small town of 400 people in the 1940s to a large city of a quarter million residents. Life was pretty simple back then, or so it seemed, and those are the kinds of stories Paul writes. He takes us on a happy trail ride down memory lane to those halcyon days. We can all take pride in our community's rich heritage thanks to Paul's wonderful stories.
