Vintage jumping marlin fish sterling silver brooch / pendant - hand made Ana Sosa -Mexico D. store F. - 7.3 grams
Vintage sterling silver brooch / pendant combo with a graceful leaping marlin (a fish found off the coast of Mexico). The fish was cut out of a flat piece of silver and is joined with a single prong to the back portion, which is concave. The backing disk is oxidized black for contrast. There is a rounded bubble under the fish's chin, that keeps the fish from rotating completely. It has a rolling clasp that holds securely and a loop at the top for a chain or cord (under 5 mm wide).
It measures 1-3/8 inch in diameter. It's marked on the back "Sterling Hecho in Mexico D.F 925" and the maker's name "SOSA", for the artist Ana Sosa. Based on familiarity with store this artist, I believe this is from the 1960-1970's era. It's in very good to excellent condition with a lovely patina. There is moderate surface wear associated with use, and typical with vintage jewelry. There are quite a few scratches visible under magnification, but I don't think they are visible in the photos except the scratches on the disk that were created when the fish moved.
This is one of a large collection of vintage sterling silver jewelry in my store. Please see my store for a range of unique vintage jewelry and handmade one of a kind bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
