Currier and Ives 1872-74' rare monochrome litho, "The Children's Pic-Nic", custom framed and silk matted. Beautiful store classic lithograph.
Currier and store Ives rare early monochrome litho, "The Children's Pic-Nic", produced between 1872-74 by the New York firm of Nathaniel Currier and James Merrit Ives, who were in partnership from 1857-1907.
The subject is the merriment of children of different ages playing together happily out doors int the countryside. Young sweethearts and pals, a girl in a swing all in period clothing of those times. A beautiful view of a simpler time with friendship and happy days. Lovely for its own sake but beautiful as a gift for the family, the child's room, a shower gift or for mother's day.
It is handsomely framed with a 1" black and gilt edged frame with a mat of beige silk Dupoini complimented with a narrow black matting directly around the edge of the print. The print is monochrome as were all the Currier & Ives prints until the 1880's.

Condition: Excellent vintage
There is some foxing and slight spotting on the title area, but this is nominal and takes nothing from it, as it is representative of American art prints nearly 150 years ago. It is a treasure. There are two very small nicks in the edge of the frame at the top center. Fully presentable in present condition.
