Lacewood Trading is a small family and friends enterprise based on the East Riding of Yorkshire coast. The salt air and stormy weather produces spalted sycamore which has distinctive and dramatic grain effects. All our sycamore is sustainably sourced on our own property through responsible tree management.

Spalting gives rise to store unusual and stunningly beautiful grains in the wood and occurs in the presence of various fungi when the trees are under stress throughout the year from the weather and atmospheric conditions.

The cut timber has been stored and allowed to season naturally before being taken indoors and worked. The bark is removed as it will ultimately fall off (and leave an unsightly unfinished surface behind). Each piece is then lovingly planed and sanded with any small naturally occurring holes usually filled with coloured epoxy resin. Some larger holes have been left as features.
The lamp base is then sealed and finished using traditional polishing methods.
A finish of danish oil is applied, and lastly arborowax is used to give a sheen finish.
Simply look after your unique table lamp by dusting it and polishing it with natural beeswax from time to time.
Do not use any form of chemical polish product on your lamp as this will damage the natural finish.
