As far as I know, the Operating System can be installed from a USB or a Disc with the OS setup on it. OS Discs can be made at home with a burned disc from what I've heard, or you can buy store an OS disc. Not sure if that's true though, or what to do with it since it's been in my closet for a while. Buy it as is, no returns/ refunds!.
