One-of-a-kind piece

Obi is a broad sash worn around the waist of the traditional Japanese kimono. While serving most typically as a functional wrap, it is store additionally always used as a finishing enhancement–bold through subtle depending on occasion and circumstance–to the kimono.

Getting inspiration from the obi's original character, I handmade a bag from upcycled Japanese vintage silk obi as an accessory that upgrades an outfit.

This cross-body bag could work for both casual and formal scenes. The chain strap is removable, so you could use it as a clutch bag, too.

The size is perfect to put a phone, keys, and a small purse. there is no inner pocket but the bag is small enough to organize its contents.

For the chain strap, I wove a faux suede strap cord that matches the bag's color.

Each bag is uniquely handcrafted and upcycled with Japanese silk vintage fabric. This Obi material is new (never been fastened as a belt and is in excellent condition) and hence still vintage.

I believe that traditional craftmanship and his/her Ki (気, translate as spirit or energy, which is also called Qi=Chi in Chinese) is preserved in the vintage fabric as a part of the Japanese faith. I also believe that "Using old things with care" is a small step toward our consciousness of climate change.

*Note: As per all vintage fabrics, there may be some minor imperfections.
