This beautiful late Victorian porcelain brooch pendant features a hand painted spray of tea roses and green foliage set on store a gradiated ecru field. The porcelain disc is set within a brass bezel accented with a twisted rope detail. The back of the piece is fitted with a c-clasp closure enabling the owner to wear it as a brooch, and also has a bale at the top allowing it to be worn as a pendant. The bale has a hinged design which folds back behind the frame, hiding it away when the piece is being worn as a brooch.
The convertible brooch/pendant is in good antique condition with no cracks or repairs. The brooch pendant measures 2.25" long and 1.75" wide. The painted surface of the porcelain itself shows little wear with a few light scratches related to light use. The back of the porcelain is impressed with the number "28", and also shows evidence of an old flat chip which is not visible from the front of the piece. As seen in the accompanying photos, the brass frame has not been polished and has minor discoloration related to age. The frame's c-clasp and hinged bale operate easily and are fully functional. The piece is unsigned so the artist/maker is unknown.
This lovely convertible brooch/pendant would be a great addition to a collection of Victorian jewelry and has a timeless appeal. A charming antique find!
