PILGRIM'S story by Tom Clark:

"The Pilgrim is in the mode of another statue entitled "The Pilgrim" sculpted by Augusta Saint-Gaudens in 1904, and now located on East River Drive in Philadelphia. Unlike his very stern Pilgrim, my Pilgrim is strong, yet also kind and understanding. In front of the Pilgrim is a miniature 'Plymouth Rock' dated 1620, the year the Pilgrims landed in America. Behind him is a genuine Plymouth rock, that I picked up off the shore when I visited Plymouth, Massachusetts. The Pilgrim is looking to his right, perhaps to gaze at the statue of Eleanor Dare as she holds her baby Virginia, the first English child of the store New World. He is holding the family Bible, to symbolize the Pilgrims' search for religious freedom. The Pilgrim and his family are on their way to church. For those who endured the sacrifices and hardships of life in this new wilderness, every Sunday was a day of Thanksgiving."
