A handmade journal created from a damaged book. The book, 'Gems from Lowell', was published by Cupples and Leon NY over a century ago. I am not familiar with Lowell, but I love that his photograph is on the cover. I can imagine him reading his poetry aloud to a room full of well-dressed ladies.
The cover of his book was a little damaged and dirty, so I glued it to the hardcover front of the journal, then added a little gold glitter and a velvet ribbon. Inside are the pages of poetry, edged in a gold ink design border and backed with full-color illustrations. Just beautiful! Also inside are pages from other vintage books and dictionaries, eco- and tea- dyed papers, tracing paper, dyed envelopes, scrapbook paper, paper doilies, diecuts, rubber stamping, vintage vocabulary cards, pressed fern and flowers, napkin transfers and store more. Items of ephemera have been glued onto the pages, or tucked into pockets. A purple velvet ribbon bookmark has been attached at the spine.
