This stunning store brooch is hand painted and signed and depicts Queen Louise of Prussia. Duchess Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was Queen of Prussia from 1797-1810 during a time of extreme crisis caused by Napoleon. She is revered for her attempt to secure more favorable terms for her people meeting the emperor face to face to plead her case. Despite her failed efforts, her people revered her as "the soul of national virtue.”
This piece can be worn as a pendant or brooch and measures 2.5” x 1.5”. There are initials of the artist in the bottom left of the piece. There are a couple scratches as shown in photos, but overall in wonderful condition.
