Antique French Silk Top Hat, Opera Hat store, Mechanical Hat or Cylinder Hat evocative of the WWI era we see in vintage photographs.

Hat maker's mark is in bright gold on the inside top of hat showing Grand Prize winners, 1900 Paris, 1910 Bruxelles (Brussels).
Maker, A. Berteil located on the famous Boulevard Hausmann Paris. Also, "hors concours" meaning the hat maker has won so many awards that he is no longer able to compete.
Previous owner had the initials "J N" shown in little brass stamps stitched to the inside of the hat along with a tiny crown.

This top hat was made in France at the turn of the 20th Century, early 1900's.
Hat collapses and springs back to shape nicely.

Top Hat measures 5 1/2" tall x 12" at the brim on the longest side, front to back.
Circumference is approximately 24" on the outside and 23" on the inside, the "hat hole."

Hat is approximately a size 7.

Hat is in very good shape for its age. Made of black silk with a reinforced brim and matching black grosgrain ribbon.
Some very light scuff marks on top. Wrinkled from collapsed position.
Nicely and professionally made.
