store In good condition here is an extremely eye-catching hardback historical fiction title. The Young Carthaginian A Story of the Times of Hannibal by GA Henty. Undated but with a prize book plate dated 1893. Published by Blackie and Son Ltd of London. Illustrated with twelve black and white plates by CJ Staniland.

George Alfred Henty was a prolific English novelist and war correspondent. He is best known for his historical adventure stories that were popular in the late 19th century and of which this is one.

Inside the pages are bright and tightly bound. There is the odd dark mark and brown blemish. Has the above-mentioned bookplate on the front paste down (see photos) but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All of the twelve black and white plates are present as called for. With just a few brown blemishes. Each chapter also has a decorative header and footer. There are a few creased/folded corners. All outside edges are tinted green.

In striking olive-green cloth covered boards with ornate decoration to the front and spine. The boards have stayed in excellent condition, clean, bright and un-faded. The surface of green cloth is slightly more rubbed than appears in the photos. With rubbing of the cloth at the corner tips. The spine is un-faded and has just a little rubbing at the head and tail with a few small nicks to the cloth. The gilt titles on the front and spine are bright.
