Pine, #39BR, art gourd with store leather lacing

store This gourd utilizes 3/32" black leather lacing with a round edge braid at the gourd rim. Permanent inks of black, grey and green were used in the design pattern that travels around the gourd.
The tall pines and cedars where I live were the inspiration. The photograph was taken in Joshua Tree National Park.
My architectural background guides my gourd work as does my connection to the natural world, tapping into its cycles and rhythms. It also reflects an appreciation of indigenous people's culture. The hand-picked gourds used are dried, cleaned, and tooled, utilizing leather lacing, permanent inks and a sealer to complete each one of a kind piece.
