Luxury store Alpaca/Merino Handknit Shawl - Romantic Shawl in Traditional Scottish Pattern - "Candlelight Ripple" - Item 1504
The luxury alpaca/merino yarn used in this hand-knit shawl is wonderfully soft to the touch. For this lovely shawl, I developed a variation on the store traditional Scottish pattern known as "Old Shale", of which there are many different variations. This one is reversible, with both sides being the same in appearance.
For you Outlander enthusiasts, these Old Shale variations are ripple patterns that might have been knitted at the time of the setting of the television series. Sometimes they are called "Feather and Fan" stitch patterns.
You could wear this romantic shawl and imagine sitting near a fire with the hero of your own personal story, because the colors of it are the beautiful colors of candlelight: tangerine, rust, yellow, gold, coral, and more.
You can easily use this shawl as a scarf. The yarn has a sweet fuzzy halo that is a lower profile than the halo of mohair. Alpaca is softer than mohair, so it will feel great around your neck. I used a combination of three different yarns: two from Peru, and one from New Zealand.
The shawl is lightweight, weighing only a little over 5 ounces (exactly 148 gm). The fiber content by weight is approximately 67% superfine alpaca, 18% merino wool, 12% suri alpaca, and 3% nylon. I hand blocked (shaped) the shawl to 60 inches (152 cm) long by 16 inches (41 cm) wide.
For best care, hand wash in cold water using a product designed for fine fibers, gently press out excess water by rolling it in a large towel, and shape it on a flat surface to dry.
There is a lovely, blue, old shale scarf in my shop, too:
