Tartuffe, or The Hypocrite by Moliere Hardcover store Illustrated Limited Editions Club Book - Hugo Steiner-Prag Illustrator - French Literature

This is a good copy of the 1930 Limited Editions Club release of Tartuffe, or The Hypocrite by Moliere. This book has an introduction by Brander Matthew's and the illustrations are done by Hugo Steiner-Prag. This book is #30 of 1500 copies and is signed by illustrator Hugo Steiner-Prag on the colophon.

The boards are covered in cream colored cloth and the front features a blind stamped design tooled into the front panel with a bust of Moliere. This edition looks good for its age

This book comes with a slipcase. The book is 14”x9”x.75” and is 118 numbered pages. This book is from their 1st series in 1930.

The book is looks good with minor to moderate wear on the boards store with some light staining. The slipcase does have splitting and condition issues that I have attempted to capture in the photos.

The Limited Editions Club was started in 1929 by George Macy as a way to make and sell beautifully crafted bound books illustrated and signed by some of the best in the day. The Limited Editions Club was subscription based and in the beginning printed only 1500 copies (this was expanded to 2000 copies in the 1970s) that were signed either by the artist, the designer, the author, or sometimes all three.
