Product code: Antique store John Vernon 18th Century American Silver Handmade Spoon

Antique silver spoon made by American silversmith John Vernon. An inhabitant of Flatbush, Brooklyn, John Vernon worked on Water Street in downtown New York from about 1786 to 1817. Well-regarded silversmith, he has work included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The spoon features John Vernon's maker mark on the back, as well as two other unidentified marks. The spoon appears to have once been engraved, probably monogrammed, on the front of the spoon handle. The engraving is very faded, possibly indicating it was engraved at the time store of making or soon thereafter. The spoon features a monogram (PUS) added at a later date (1908) probably as a wedding gift.

Pretty good condition for its age. Condition is consistent with age and use. A dent in the bowl of spoon. Slightly bent.
