Founded by Sol E. Weinreich, the company that would become “Marvella” began life in 1911 as Weinrich Bros. They not only manufactured jewelry under their own “Marvella” brand, but also created inventory for other jewelry establishments also. In the 1950s the company developed a wide production of jewelry made of artificial pearls of excellent quality and changed the company name to “Marvella Pearls”, likely to reflect this. Marvella became well known for their high quality faux pearls and the excellent craftsmanship that went into their pieces. Their popularity continued to soar throughout the 1960's. Sometime between the 1950's and 1965, the company name was changed to “Marvella, Inc.” Marvella was on the “high end” of the costume jewelry industry, both in quality & price. In 1982, when they were still at the height of their popularity, the company was acquired by Crystal Brands Inc. which also owned Trifari & Monet. Crystal Brands was bought by Liz Claiborne in 2000 & production was moved out of the US.
