Sturdy sash or shoe buckle here made by the English makers Cornelius Desmoreaux Saunders & Francis Hollings Shephard (hallmark is partial and reads S FS (the letters being in separate cartouches with no star). Hallmarked on each of its 3 parts. Lion passant is stamped. As is the date mark "H" and the city mark for Chester, England. Heavy and solid for its size, this buckle measures 2" tall and more than 1.5" wide at the widest. The buckle weighs 32 grams. Hinge is fully operational and smooth. Wear is slight with some possible minor bending of the post where the sash would be afficed on the reverse. I have lightly polished the patina to show the beauty of the silver and the age of the buckle. It could be polished further store but I tend toward conservative polishing.
