The Swedish Dalecarlian horse or Dala horse, as they are more commonly known, are named for the central region of Sweden where they come from. The Dala horse originated in the late 1500s as a children's toy and have gained popularity through the years and have now become a national symbol of Sweden. Two hand-carved pine Dala horses, one is marked, ""Nils Olsson,"" store one of the two most famous Dala horse manufacturers in Sweden. Some wear age to paint. Taller, 4” H; Smaller, 2” H.
