The Josef figurines were first introduced by Muriel Joseph George in the mid 1940's and were only produced in California. Muriel insisted that all of her porcelain figurines/items be triple fired in the kiln. This simple measure ensured that her fine and delicate figurines would hold up thru the years. Production moved to Japan in 1960. store Most early figurines have the coveted black eyes, later ones have brown eyes. In 1985, when the company was sold to Applause, production was moved to other places - China, Korea, etc.
