This item is a Parian figure of Launce and His Dog by Robinson and Leadbeater from the comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona by William Shakespeare. In the play, Launce is a significant character as the servant of one of the two gentlemen - Proteus. It is illustrated in the R & L photographic archive dating from the 1880s, page 55. The figure is finely sculpted particularly the face of the man, the hands, the dog and the feathers in the hat. Parian is a type of biscuit porcelain developed around 1845 by Mintons, a Staffordshire pottery manufacturer. It was named after Paros, the Greek island known for their white store Parian marble. Height is approx 15” Weight is 3lbs 1oz Beautiful condition. No chips or cracks Being shipped through UPS ground.
