Large Hand-Painted Chinese Famille Rose Immortal Figurine - Asian Deity store Statue - 15" Tall

This Chinese export Famille Rose Immortal figurine is 15" tall and hand painted. I am not an expert in Chinese deities, but I have been told he is either Caishen (or Cai Shen) the Chinese deity of money or wealth, or Luxing (also known as Lu Hsing), a deity who could bring someone prosperity (lu). Luxing is one of three stellar gods of luck known collectively as "Fulushou."

He is dressed in colorful Hanfu clothing, with a hat of a person of rank (with slots on the sides where long or curved 'wing flaps' could be inserted during important meetings or ceremonies). He is holding a ruyi (or scepter). His clothing is hand-decorated with floral designs, dragons, etc., in many colors of enamel paint on a glazed white background, finished off with some gold trim on his hat and shoulders. At approx. 15" tall, he would be quite a conversation piece on a table, mantel or credenza.

The figurine is unmarked on the bottom, so I am not sure of its age. I think the black marks on the bottom may have been made by a previous owner. We also have a second immortal figurine in our shop. The condition of this figurine is very good for its age, with no chips, cracks or repairs that I can see. This figurine was manufactured with two square holes on either side of his hat where long 'wing flaps' could be inserted (see photo #8). If the figurine had wing flaps when it was manufactured, they are now missing. As was common with Asian ceramics of this era, the artwork is charmingly imprecise, with color variations, wavy lines, painting outside of boundaries and spots of misplaced or missing paint. There are a few places where some of the enamel paint is missing, especially on the back of one of the sleeves (see bottom left frame in photo #10) and a small spot on top of the hat between the red and black and another on top of the scepter (see photo #9), and some spots that have a less-than-glossy finish, especially on the top and back of his hat (see photos #6 and #9). There is also a small popped air bubble below the bottom edge of his 'skirt', right above his shoe on the left side of photo #5. It is not visible unless looking upward at the figurine. Also, the bottom of the figurine is a little rough, and looks like there might be a little store bit of glue and felt residue on the edges (see photos #8). Finally, there are a few minor scratches and scuffs, especially on the bottom, as you would expect for something of its age. I mentioned the manufacturing flaws just for your information, and do not think any of them diminish the character and charm of this piece in any way. Though we usually ship using USPS Priority Mail, it may be more effective for us to ship via FedEx because of the weight and size of this figurine. If we change carriers, we will let you know and provide you with the tracking information.
