Antique Majolica Tobacco Humidor Tiger Head Jar Motif 19th Century Circa 1880's. This is a very rare and highly sought after piece that Victorian smokers used after going from snuff to smoking pipes. Humorous figural tobacco jars were and are very popular. These animal tobacco jars were even given out as promotional gifts at country fairs. Most were produced in small potteries in the Bohemia area of Austria were not marked but this has the production number stamped onto the bottom. This particular tobacco jar humidor is likely from the late 1880-1900's. This piece stands 4 1/4”inches in height and 3-4”inches in width. It's in very good overall condition considering it's age. There maybe some crazing which is very common but no apparent damage. This is a rare and seldom found piece for any tocacco enthusiast. Inside the base of the humidor there's a small water spot of ceramic that likely had fallen onto the jar before firing visible in the photo. Please take a look at the photos as they are part of the description. All measurements are approximate.
