Box
As the lid states this was a “Scholar's Companion”. The scholar being a school girl or boy.
It is done in red with gold embellishments and lettering.
Measuring 7 inches long by 3 inches store wide by 1 1/2 inches tall, it is in very good condition with signs of wear attendant with age and use. There is some rubbing and minor chipping of paint, but these are the signs of a box that went to school every day. See photos as they are part of the description.
The interior of the lid has a slotted tin band that was used to hold pencils and such. The original ruler still remains. It has great patina and is notched and worn.
It's a lovely old tole school box, a remnant of a simpler time.
