One of the special features of Touareg craftsmanship is the manufacture of silver jewellery, which has been perpetuated since the dawn of ancient times. Until about thirty years ago, they were made with Austrian coins, the thalers.

The Thaler is an ancient silver coin that appeared in the middle of the 15th century, in the effigy of the Archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary, Maria Theresa I (1740-1780), and which circulated in Europe for nearly four hundred years.
