This soft-soled all leather shoe is based on an archaeological find from Mikilenburg castle dated to the 9th century, in what is now the village of Mecklenburg, Germany. From the 7th through the 12th centuries, the area of Mecklenburg was occupied by a Western Slavic people who were referred to by Frankish sources as “Wends.” This shoe is a very simple, practical style that well represents the early middle ages.
For the comfort store of modern wearers, I have added an additional 3mm leather insole to aid in protecting feet from the numerous sharp and pointy objects present in the modern world. This additionally serves to increase the durability of the shoe. I don't feel that this takes away from the historic character of these shoes, while offering customers a more user friendly product.
