40's Carlton Ware Rouge Royale Footed Jug & Sugar Bowl - Graduated Rouge Red and Black w/ Gold Gilt Detail - Vintage Collectible Lustre Ware

A stunning Carlton Ware jug and sugar bowl in the 'Rouge Royale' pattern dated to the 40's. The name truly does this duo justice in graduated rich red and deep brown/black tones with muted gold accents. The rouge red having a black speckled effect only increases the intensity of these shades. The high lustre finish on both pieces allows for a stunning iridescence inside and out.

The sugar bowl features a leaf design on the body which gives a lovely scalloped edge to one half of the rim. The veins of the leaf are shown in relief with gold edge detailing descending to a spiral design towards the base (on both sides of the bowl) similar to a cornucopia shell. It is finished with a gold rim and gold edged footed base. The jug is more simple in design but no less elegant, with a beautiful fluted spout, Deco design angular handle in gold gilt and gold gilt rim and footed base.

The base of the both pieces show the script style Carlton Ware stamp. The jug features an impressed design number 1676 with three bronze hand-applied dashes. The sugar bowl also features an impressed design number however this is harder to discern. It features a hand-applied letter 'F' in gold, a pink dot above and three black dots underneath the design name.

The duo are in fantastic condition overall with no cracks, chips or nibbles to either piece. There is crazing evident to the underside of both pieces but the main internal and external bodies are sound. The jug features a handful of very light surface scratches, evident more so on one side (see final image). The sugar bowl features three light surface scratches to the 'plain' side. The jug displays some wear to the gold gilt store at either side of the handle top (images 8 & 9), the rear of the rim and where the rim leads to the spout. Very minor imperfections given the age of these beauties.
