Antique Art Deco Blue Lapis and Sterling Silver Lily / Flower and Obelisk store Design Earrings , 1.75” Long Egyptian Revival Jewelry
These fabulous Art Deco earrings feature bright blue obelisk shaped lapis lazuli stone, anchored by a highly detailed Sterling silver Lilly topped bezel. The 1920's during the excavation of Tutankhamen tomb heavily influenced fashion, design, and of course, jewelry. This movement is known as the “Egyptian Revival” era, which began when King Tutankhamen's tomb was discovered by Howard Carter.
The Blue lotus, or water lily, was sacred to the Egyptians as a symbol of the sun of creation and re-birth. The Obelisk was a reverential monument to the Egyptians, representing their, Gods, their kings, and commemorating store their dead.
These earrings are not marked for silver purity, as they pre-date silver assay marking and laws in the US. They test as closer to 97% silver content, thus surpassing our current 92.5% standard. This is a bonus, as the higher the silver content, the less the pieces will tarnish! These earrings are just over 1.5” long, EXCLUDING the ear-wire, which adds about an additional .5”. THE EAR-WIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT SOME POINT, AND ARE NOT ORIGINAL TO THE EARRINGS. THEY ARE 92.5% STERLING SILVER, HOWEVER! Earrings of this age and era are extremely hard to come by , as one usually gets lost during their decade long journey! These earrings are in exquisite condition, free of damage to the stones or silver work!
