Note: White Stag is a well known Portland label. ” White Stag was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1906 as a manufacturer of tents and sails. It was originally called the Willamette Tent and Awning Company. This name was changed to Hirsch-Weiss Canvas Products and the company began making rain-proof coats and other outdoor wear.In 1929 they developed a line of clothing for skiers, using the name White Stag. Even though skiing was a relatively new sport in the US, the brand was successful. By the late 1940s they were producing other sportswear as well. White Stag was purchased by Warnaco in 1966.
