RARE DIVIDED "ART NOUVEAU BERRY BOWL,' AMERICAN SILVER-PLATE WITH ORNATE DECORATIVE HANDLE CIRCA 1880 - 1905

We are offering for sale an absolutely gorgeous and rare American silver-plate center divided "ART NOUVEAU BERRY BOWL" having a beautiful, ornate foliate handle decorated with applied berries and delicate leaves. It measures 10" long x 10" wide x 6" high from bottom to top of the handle. The outer edge of the bowl (the highest point is 3" from base to edge of bowl) is deeply fluted with decorative channels running vertically. The server was designed to hold fresh berries on one side and the other, a custard sauce or stiff sweet whipped cream. The inside of the bowl is almost a matte silver finish and shows signs of typical age wear with a few small spots of discoloration and some very light pitting, mostly on one side (probably where the berries were served originally).
This elegant, rare serving piece would make a beautiful addition to any dining table or a buffet as well as an amazing display in a china hutch. Of course you are not limited to serving berries and whipped cream. One could serve anything that paired together in it - mini rolls & whipped butter, olives and pickles, small sausages and mustard, assorted nuts, etc. A truly unique and lovely Art Nouveau serving piece. It is stamped underfoot SIMPSON HALL MILLER & CO., QUADRUPLE PLATE 1751, and was made circa 1885 - 1905. Light surface wear is limited predominantly to the inside of the dish. It is in wonderful condition considering it is between 117 to 142 years old.
