In this work, Phelan describes an interesting encounter with Dylan Thomas and its consequences, as well as describing the vagabond lifestyle the author so adored.Written by Jim Phelan (1895-1966), an Irish writer of works on life as a tramp. He was arrested during the Irish Civil War and sentenced to death by hanging after a murder occurred during a post office robbery; it was commuted to life imprisonment on the eve of his execution, and upon his release thirteen years later, he swore to never live within four walls again.Inscribed by the author, 'For Desmond Cooper, with the author's best wishes to recall a hitch-hike and gossip about surnames, Jim Phelan, 1959'.Including a glossary of tramping phrases.Complete with an unclipped dust wrapper.A first edition. Condition Report: In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart, with just slight wear to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine.
