This hand carved bird is beautifully done - he is made of buffalo horn, on a wood pedestal. The attention to detail is astonishing - the scales and lines of his feathers, and the talons carved into the base are remarkable. The way the artist used the natural contours of the horn near the base are really unique. The horn is naturally translucent, so the pattern of the feathers on the wings is incredible with the light store behind it. The neutral colors and lifelike style work in any variety of decors.
Measures 17 1/4” wide by 12 1/2” deep by 14” high. Nice vintage condition. A partial tag on the side looks like it once read 'Hand Carved Buffalo Horn, Made in Thailand'. He does have one unusual feature - he seems to have a third eye! It's hidden in the carving near his right foot, and blends in unless you are really looking for it.
