Ginseng Ngoc Linh is also the 20th type of ginseng found in the world. According to research results from 1978 of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, the rhizome of Ngoc Linh ginseng Vietnam contains 26 saponin compounds with known chemical structure and 24 new structural saponins that are not in ginseng types. other, while Korean ginseng has about 25 saponins. The latest published results of research and isolating chemical components also extended the saponin list of Ngoc Linh ginseng even more, to a total of 52 types. Thus, Vietnamese ginseng is one of the ginsengs with the most saponin content, similar to some precious ginseng plants that have been studied and used for a long time in the world. With diverse chemical compounds and practical effects on human health, Ngoc Linh ginseng is now being sold on the market at an increasingly high price, even higher than Korean ginseng many store times.
Ginseng was discovered at an altitude of 1,200m or more (it is documented that the altitude found Ngoc Linh ginseng is about 1,500m), reaching the highest density at about 1,700-2,000m under the old forest canopy, and Until now, only two provinces of Kon Tum and Quang Nam have had this ginseng plant. Ginseng grows concentrated at the foot of Ngoc Linh Mountain, a 2,578m high mountain with red-yellow soil on granite rocks over 50 cm thick, with high humus, spongy and large primary forest, so it is called Ngoc Linh ginseng. Although the latest field studies show that ginseng also grows in Ngoc Lum Heo mountain in Phuoc Loc commune, Phuoc Son district, Quang Nam province, [10] Ngoc Am mountain peak in Quang Nam, Dac Glay in Kontum, mountain Langbian in Lac Duong in Lam Dong province is also very likely to have this type of ginseng. This is a perennial herbaceous plant, 40 cm to 100 cm in height, at first glance very similar to Korean ginseng, but a closer look will see the scarred rhizomes and burning stalks due to the annual loss of pneumatophores.
Sam Ngoc Linh is in the form of an upright, green or purpleish, small, with a body diameter of 4-8mm, often fades every year, although sometimes it also exists for a few years. The rhizome is 1–2 cm in diameter, grows horizontally like a rhubarb 1–3 cm above or below the ground, bearing many branches and tubers. Leaf-bearing stems and corresponding to each leaf-bearing stalk is a nodule about 0.5-0.7 cm long, although ginseng has only one leaf that does not fall during year 1 to year 3 and only from year 5 4 onwards will add 2 to 3 cards. On the top of the leaf-bearing stalk is a ring-shaped double leaf with 3-5 leaf branches. The leaf stalk is 6-12mm long, carries 5 leaflets, the central leaflets are even larger with 12–15 cm long, 3–4 cm wide. Leaf leaflets oval, serrated edges, pointed tip, hairy leaves on both sides. 4-5-year-old plants have single canopy flowers that grow under straight leaves with stems, and stalks 10–20 cm long may include 1-4 canopy or a single flower below the main canopy. Each canopy has 60-100 flowers, flower stalks are 1-1.5 cm short, 5 sepals, 5 petals, light yellow, 5 stamens, vote a box with 1 stigma. The fruit is concentrated in the center of the foliage, 0.8 cm-1 cm long and about 0.5 cm-0.6 cm wide, and after two months, it begins to turn green to dark green, yellow-green, when Ripe orange-red with an irregular black dot at the top of the fruit. Each fruit contains one seed, some fruit contains 2 seeds and the average number of fruit is about 10 to 30 fruits.
Growing under a humid, humus canopy, suitable for daytime temperatures from 20 ° C-25 ° C, at night 15 ° C-18 ° C, Ngoc Linh ginseng can live a long time, even over 100 years, growth is quite slow. Parts used to make drugs are mainly rhizomes, tubers and in addition can also use leaves and roots. At the beginning of January each year, ginseng appears new buds after the winter hibernation season, the pneumatophores gradually grow into a mature ginseng tree with 1 flower canopy. From April to June, the plants bloom and bear fruit. July begins to bear fruit and lasts until September. At the end of October, the pneumatophores gradually fade, the leaves fall, leaving a scar on the head of the ginseng and the plant begins to hibernate through December. It is based on the scar on the head of the bulb every winter that one can tell how old the ginseng is, it must be at least 3 years old, which means there is a scar on the bulb (after the first 3 years, only one leaf falls). Can be exploited, recommended to be over 5 years old. Winter is also the season to harvest the best rhizomes of ginseng.
