“Tauromaqia” original reduction cut linocut by Mendocino printmaker Nicholas Collins. This 10.5” x 17.5” print (a fraction wider at the right) was the product of drawing, drawing, and more drawing of Goya's fantastic Tauromaquia etchings. This is my attempt to find a way to capture the fine energy of etching in the rougher medium of linocut. This is print is a one-of-a-kind in this mustard yellow color combination (1/1). Printed with Cranfield oil inks on acid free store Strathmore 300 Series Printmaking paper
Artist's bio: I was born and raised in Oakland CA where I was fortunate enough to attend the Berkeley Children's Art Studio as a kid which gave me confidence as an artist and respect for the process of creating. My parents were from England and I spent much of my youth over there, mostly in Sussex. I studied art history, drawing and sculpture/studio at UCSB I trained under master printmakers Kazuko Wantanabe and Emmanuel Montoya at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, where I did my residency.
I work primarily in reduction linocut which I hand press in limited editions—mostly one-of-a-kind. My work is in private collections in the UK and across the US and can be seen (whenever covid ends) at the Mendocino Art Center where I teach linocut workshops and a weekly printmaking class. I recently completed a 2 year stint of teaching linocut to artists with developmental disabilities at Art Explorers in Fort Bragg, CA.
