James H. William was born in Fort Plain, New York (between Utica & Albany) in 1845. In his youth he joined his cousin E.W. Bliss to form Bliss & Williams (notable for their production of torpedoes for the US Navy). In 1882, Williams went off on his own with a factory in Flushing (near the old Remington Munitions Factory, where my office was until 1993). And a couple of years later he moved to Brooklyn (I believe to Richards St). Williams was sold to Snap-On in (I believe) in 1993.
