This is a great classic 1940s, WWII era dress. I can store just picture a young woman wearing this with peep toe heels, gloves, Victory Roll hairdo and a cute hat. What a smart outfit that must have been!
The bodice is made of a light black crepe, probably rayon. No fade spots. The skirt and peplum are a plaid taffeta-- red, green, gray. The skirt has a modest flair, in keeping with the conservative use of fabric during the war. The bodice back has a keyhole opening which closes with 4 self covered buttons and fabric loops. All present and functioning. I love the adorable peek a boo plaid facings in the armhole. The large sequin covered bow is classic styling of the day. And we can't forget the shoulder pads. There is a metal side zipper, which also functions fine. There are 2 tiny holes near the zipper on back, see pictures for detail. There is also one tiny hole in the peplum center back. Overall, the dress is in very good vintage condition for a 75ish year old dress. It is definitely wearable, but as with anything of this age, do it with care. There is no maker's tag. It may very well have been hand made, judging by the pinking sheared seams.
