This is an original woodcut titled 'White silence'
The vast snow covered land in the far North offers little distractions. The fact that snow reflects most light gives it a white and blue appearance. Fresh fallen snow absorbs sound waves and dampens sound. The opposite is true when the snow surface melts and refreezes, creating a smooth surface which reflects sound waves. As a result, sounds travel further and appear clearer. Standing in a white open and silent landscape removes the ‘clutter from our heads' and sharpens our senses.
