This rare stunning Catholic medal, dating back to 1930s France, features on the obverse a full height image of a St. Louis crowned king of France holding a scepter. The image is set against a background dotted with fleur-de-lis.
Three quarters of the verso has an image of St. Louis and his mother, Blanche, teaching him most of what a king must know—Latin, public speaking, writing, military arts, and government. He was 12 years old when he was crowned king of France. Because of his youth, his mother ruled France as regent during his minority. Louis's mother trained him to be a great leader and a good Christian.
The medal, in bronze and circular in shape, is signed P. LENOIR in the bottom right corner of the front side. P. (Pierre) Lenoir (1879 - 1953) was a French sculptor and medallist.
Measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter and hallmarked with the maker's mark and stamped "BRONZE" on the bottom edge.
