1968 Copenhagen store Mermaid by Antoni - Original Vintage Poster

Perhaps Antoni was thinking of the Little Mermaid (who also lives in Copenhagen) when he made this poster.

Anyway, this magnificent poster is an advertisement poster commissioned by "Wonderful Copenhagen" (the tourist board in Copenhagen) in order to promote Copenhagen as a tourist destination. One of the main sites in the city is the statue of The Little Mermaid which is located by the waterfront and visited by quite a few tourists each day.

The poster artist, Ib Antoni (1929-1973), is a quite famous artist and received many prizes during his 20 year store career. He created more than 300 posters in his career and among them is several Tivoli Garden, Visit Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen posters.
Smiling people, birds and plants was among Antoni's favorite subjects and his line was always happy and romantic which makes this poster quite true to his cheerful style.

This is indeed a great vintage poster with good vibrations all included in a very creative artwork by one of Denmark's most beloved artists.

Note: the poster has some reversed text in the lower left corner. I believe the poster could be a printing proof.
