OMJN165 Necklace Vintage, long branch coral, rare, 70s, mid-century, polished, beautiful

Here we are offering a gorgeous vintage strand of very long branch red Coral. It is graduated which is very labor intensive.

This coral is becoming more and more rare. It can no longer be legally harvested from our oceans. And so, it's value will only increase. This piece is probably mid-century. With a resurgence in the 1970s. Probably from the Mediterranean Sea.

Naturally, coral has a matte finish. This piece, with it's clean shine, is polished. The branches are very fragile, almost glass-like. Please handle with care. And never subject it to chemicals. Wear this necklace and I promise heads will turn.

Length 19.5 inches. Focal length graduated up to 1.5 inches.

CORAL
Red corals grow on the rocky sea bottom with low sedimentation, typically in dark environments. The original species is found mainly in the Mediterranean Sea. There are some Atlantic sites and Western Pacific.
Corals in the shallower depths have nearly been depleted and so it is no longer legal to harvest, while deep water harvesting is highly regulated.
The hard skeleton of red coral branches is naturally matte, but can be polished to a glassy shine. It can range from warm pink to deep red.
Coral has been harvested for thousands of years for decorative purposes. It was especially popular in the Victorian era.
*Please note, I have acid tested all my coral to validate its authenticity.
