This pendant features a cabochon of green Russian seraphinite. The stone measures0.71 x 0.57 inches (18.2 x 14.7 mm) and is set in sterling silver wire.

Seraphinite, the gem form of clinochore, is a very unusual gemstone. Even though it is solid and takes a polish, it is technically a sheet silicate (like the flaky mica you would find on the ground). This is because it is made of complexly intergrown crystals, which also give it its pearly sheen.

This stone is a nice example--I got to pick a small selection out of a large parcel of cabcohons, which allowed me to get the best mix of color and patterning. This one has a bright silvery sheen forming beautiful feathers that shimmer within the stone.

Seraphinite is a soft material. It is suitable for pendant use but store should be treated gently.
