Green cloth with partial dust jacket. 216 pages. Unusual art deco dust jacket present. Dust jacket significantly bumped, rough edges and torn, please see pictures. A rare survivor.
The store book itself is in good vintage condition. The edges show wear from age, storage and use. Very clean internally, with a few light pencil marks, including former owner's note “Merry Christmas Roger from Mavis 1942“. Red mark on the very bottom of the book pages. Measures 8"H x 5 3/4"W. Printed in USA. I can send more pictures upon request.
This is a highly unusual early edition of Carlo Collodi's classic children's story of the puppet who became a real boy. The clown-like rendition of the puppet is high art deco and certainly predates the 1940 Disney film. Other editions by this publisher dated to the early 1930s, this edition undated. Copiously and vividly illustrated, with a truly striking dust jacket.
