Product code: Coffee Pot, Hotel Silver, Elkington Co. Silver Plate, Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels Individual Serving, Made in England, store 1946, Tea

This is a piece of hotel silver made by Elkington & Co. of England for the Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels. The date mark on the back stamp indicates the date of manufacture was 1946. The style number is 31431. This is a one pint size so was probably used for an individual's set up of coffee, or perhaps tea or cocoa. The pot is 7" in height and 7 1/4" from spout tip to handle end. It is traditional in style with a tiny stacked ring pattern just under the lid that is intersected by 'Xs' intermittently. The shape of the pot is graceful and elegant and it pours without a drip. The pot is quite heavy (1 lb. 6 oz.), in hotel silver quality to take the wear and tear of daily use. The lid hinge works as it should and is substantial. It sits squarely on the table and the interior is clean. There are some faint scratches and a couple minor dimple dents below the hotel medallion that you can see in several of the photos. The medallion on the side of the pot is made up of a crown atop a shield with store a lion and 3 eagles within the shield. Below that is a banner that says 'Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels' The back stamp definitely indicates this is a plated piece. Coffee or cocoa for one, anyone?
