This historical 1939 New Yorks World's Fair souvenir scarf and pin make a fine collectable pair. The pin is gold wash over brass with a blue enameled center featuring the futuristic Perisphere and Trylon structures, the signature symbol of the fair featuring “The World of Tomorrow”. The pin hook needs to be tightened. The souvenir scarf is 20 inches by 18 inches and is made of rayon with hand rolled edges. The scarf features many of the pavilions from the exposition. The scarf for its many years (81years) is conditioned as shown in the photos. This set can add to your collectables of 1939 New York World's Fair memorabilia.
The 1939 New York World's Fair held at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens was the second most expensive American world's fair of all time, exceeded only by the St. Louis Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in 1904. The New York World's Fair was created by a group of New York City businessmen to help lift the city and the country out of store its economic woes of the Great Depression. Thirty-Three countries from around the world participated in it, and over 44 million people attended the exhibits in two seasons. Four months into the 1939 World's Fair World War Two began with many of the international pavilions being affected.
