A beautiful and unusual antique 1880's Victorian Egyptian Revival Brass sash brooch featuring a facet cut purple Czech glass stone flanked by detailed depictions of the Egyptian god Geb. Geb was represented with his head surmounted by a goose and was the 3rd divine ruler among the gods. Human pharaohs were thought to be decended from him. The Egyptian royal throne was called the throne of Geb. The Victorian Egyptian Revival began in 1869 with the opening of the Suez Canal which gave rise to an Egyptian tourism craze among the Victorians. This piece is 2 1/2" long store and 1 3/4" wide and in fine antique condition. Features an older style C-clasp.
